Intermediate Class

School yrs 7—9

At this stage, we are continuing to strengthen the fundamental skills while introducing more advanced techniques, focusing on technical and competitive ground work and throws. To keep things engaging, we mix in fun activities that make learning enjoyable. We continue to support those interested in competitions. There are also opportunities for assisting in classes and learning officiating skills.

We proudly support those working towards their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award.

Advanced/Senior Class

School yrs 10 to adult

We’re now advancing to more challenging techniques with added complexity. Through a mix of drills, randori, and increased physical training, we focus on pushing skills to the next level. In this class, we’re working towards a black belt, with the goal of achieving it before heading off to university or entering the working world. You’ll also find adults in this class, creating a diverse and motivating training environment.

There is more opportunity for coaching and officiating awards.

Mini Class

Age 5 - 7

Our Mini Judo class is the perfect introduction to judo for children under 8, helping them develop essential skills in coordination, concentration, self-control, and strength—all while having fun!

We follow the BJA Judo Kids syllabus, with the exciting addition of extra belts to achieve, keeping young judokas motivated and engaged. Through structured activities and playful exercises, we create a fun and supportive environment where children can build confidence and enjoy learning the fundamentals of judo.

Junior Recreational / Beginner Class

Age 8 - 11 (School year 6)

Our Junior Recreational Judo class is the perfect introduction for junior school children who are interested in doing judo but may feel a little nervous, or haven’t had much experience with sports. This friendly, once-a-week class allows children to learn at their own pace in a fun and supportive environment while developing confidence, coordination, and beginner judo skills.

Once a year, we run our special Borough Judo Program as part of local sports development. These classes provide a fun and engaging introduction to judo, giving children the chance to learn key skills, build confidence, and experience the sport in a supportive environment.

The program culminates in an exciting borough-wide event, where participants can showcase what they’ve learned and celebrate their progress. It’s a fantastic opportunity for children to try judo, meet new friends, and be part of something special!

📢 Sign-ups open once a year! When registration goes live, we’ll share the link so you can secure your spot.

  • My kids have been attending judo training at Westcroft for a few years now and absolutely love it there. They have both progressed through their belts and the eldest is now doing competitions, which he loves. The coaching staff are all incredible, and so dedicated. Rachelle is amazing and has so much patience with them all, particularly the little ones who can find concentrating a challenge sometimes! It is an incredibly kind and inclusive group and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to start or continue their judo journey.

  • My children have been going for a couple of years now (now age nearly 7 and 9). Rachelle leads a very professional and knowledgeable team. Rachelle as is her husband and her grown up children are all masters in Judo and as a team they are committed and motivational. They have instilled a passion for judo in myself and my kids and I hope that my children will continue for a long term as I think there is a great value in learning a martial art. I thoroughly recommend judo and this particular club.

It such a welcoming environment, with the emphasis on inclusion & participation although not ignoring achievement. It's a great sport for girls to get into & they have lots of girls at westcroft too.
